Description
This smoky, slightly spicy Patatas Bravas Sauce comes together in just 10 minutes with pantry staples. Made with crushed tomatoes, smoked paprika, garlic, and a touch of cayenne, it’s the perfect Spanish salsa brava for crispy potatoes, roasted vegetables, or grilled meats.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
- Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
- Stir in the red wine vinegar, salt, and sugar.
- Taste and adjust seasoning or heat as desired.
- Blend with an immersion blender if you prefer a smooth sauce.
- Serve warm over crispy fried or roasted potatoes.
Notes
Use smoked paprika for authentic flavor. Start with less cayenne if you prefer a milder sauce. The sauce tastes even better after resting overnight in the refrigerator and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
