Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional but recommended for Christmas)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar for 2 full minutes until lighter and fluffy.
- Add the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft, sticky dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Scoop dough into 1 1/2-tbsp balls and place on the baking sheets, leaving space for spreading.
- Bake for 9–11 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers still look soft.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then move to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch. Make a glaze with powdered sugar and maple syrup. Freeze beautifully for Christmas prep.
