Description
Cream peas are the ultimate comfort side dish—tender green peas in a rich, buttery cream sauce. Perfect for family dinners, holidays, or any cozy meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups green peas (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Pinch of sugar (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour to make a roux. Cook for 1–2 minutes until slightly golden and fragrant.
- Slowly whisk in milk and cream, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and a pinch of sugar if desired.
- Add peas and simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until peas are tender and the sauce is creamy.
- Serve warm as a side dish to your favorite main course.
Notes
For a cheesy version, stir in shredded cheddar or parmesan. Add fresh herbs like dill or parsley for a flavor boost. To lighten it up, use 2% milk and skip the cream.
