The Best Way to Cook Oyster Mushrooms

Description

With high heat, light seasoning, and a hot pan, oyster mushrooms turn golden, meaty, and delicious in minutes. Perfect for a simple side or hearty main.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz oyster mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • Fresh thyme or parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gently clean the oyster mushrooms using a damp paper towel. Trim off the tough base and separate large clusters into strips.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and let it heat until shimmering.
  3. Add the mushrooms in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan or they will steam instead of brown.
  4. Cook undisturbed for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottoms turn golden brown.
  5. Flip the mushrooms, season with salt and pepper, and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Add garlic and herbs during the final minute, stirring just until fragrant.
  7. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

Notes

Use high heat and avoid crowding the pan for the crispiest texture. Add garlic and herbs at the end to avoid burning.
